Frequently Asked Questions

Everything clients, consultants and developers ask us about acrylic swimming pools — material, engineering, cost, locations and care.

01

Acrylic Material & Engineering

What is the difference between acrylic and glass pool panels?

Acrylic (cast PMMA) stays optically clear at the thicknesses pools require, is up to 17 times more impact-resistant than glass, weighs about half as much, and can be thermoformed into curves and bonded into seamless corners. Glass is limited to smaller flat panels and shows a green tint at thickness. For structural pool transparency, acrylic is the engineering standard worldwide.

How thick does an acrylic pool panel need to be?

Thickness depends on water depth, panel span, support detail and safety factors. PRUVA calculates the exact requirement for every panel with in-house Finite Element Analysis — typically from around 60mm for small viewing windows up to 250mm+ for deep full-height walls.

Do acrylic pool panels yellow in the Dubai sun?

Quality UV-stabilised cast acrylic — the grade PRUVA installs — is rated for permanent outdoor exposure in the Gulf climate and does not yellow in service.

Is annealing required after acrylic bonding?

Yes. In professional structural acrylic work, post-bond annealing is an integral part of the bonding process: a controlled heat treatment that manages residual stresses around the bonded joint. It should always be performed and documented as part of the approved procedure.

Is an acrylic pool safe for children?

Yes — safer than glass. Acrylic does not shatter; it is a ductile material many times stronger than any household impact, and every PRUVA panel is FEA-validated with full safety factors.

02

Cost & Process

How much does an acrylic pool cost in Dubai?

There is no single price — the biggest drivers are panel thickness (set by water depth), the transparent area, panel geometry (flat, L-shaped or curved), the pool structure itself, and site access. A single viewing window is the most economical entry point; full transparent walls are a signature investment. PRUVA provides a realistic budget range after a free consultation.

How long does an acrylic pool project take?

Bespoke concrete pools with acrylic panels typically run a few months end to end, with acrylic fabrication progressing in parallel with the shell. Compact plunge pools and FRP formats are significantly faster.

Can an acrylic window be added to an existing pool?

Often yes. A structurally sound concrete pool can usually be retrofitted: the aperture is cut, a frame and rebate are engineered, and an FEA-validated panel is bonded in watertight. PRUVA assesses the existing shell first and confirms which options it supports.

Do you provide design as well as installation?

Yes — PRUVA is a full-service contractor: structural design, FEA validation, fabrication, chemical bonding, installation, sealing, commissioning and lifetime polishing support, under one contract.

03

Pool Types & Locations

Can a pool be installed on a rooftop or balcony?

Yes — more often than owners expect. A structural load assessment determines the weight budget; compact plunge formats, lightweight FRP shells and placement over columns and beams then make many roofs viable. Every elevated project starts with PRUVA's structural assessment.

Should I choose an FRP or a concrete plunge pool?

FRP (fiberglass) is best when speed, low weight and a moulded design matter — especially on rooftops. Concrete is best for fully bespoke shapes, premium finishes and integrated acrylic walls. PRUVA provides complete design, supply and installation for both methods.

Can a plunge pool be chilled for cold plunge therapy?

Yes. We integrate dedicated chillers that hold cold-plunge temperatures alongside heating for year-round comfort — a popular combination in the UAE climate.

Which areas does PRUVA serve?

PRUVA is based in Dubai and serves the entire UAE and GCC region — including villa communities such as Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Hills and Emirates Hills, as well as Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.

Maintenance & Care

How do I clean an acrylic pool panel?

Rinse with clean water first, then wipe with a soft microfibre cloth and mild pH-neutral soap. Never use abrasive pads, razor blades or ammonia-based glass cleaners — they damage acrylic. Below the waterline, normal soft-brush pool cleaning applies.

Can scratches be removed from acrylic panels?

Yes — unlike glass, acrylic scratches polish out completely. PRUVA performs both dry polishing and underwater polishing, restoring full optical clarity in most cases without draining the pool.

How often does an acrylic pool need professional attention?

A weekly soft-cloth wipe and normal water chemistry cover routine care. We recommend a professional condition inspection every 1–2 years, with polishing only as needed — an acrylic pool asks for very little and stays new for decades.
